Every NYPD cop has received a special poignant message from the mother of a fallen Finest offering help to the families of other dead officers, as well as to city policemen serving in the military.
Marge Dwyer, whose 23-year-old son Anthony was fatally thrown from a Midtown roof while chasing burglary suspects in 1989, spoke in a video recently sent to each cop’s smartphone.
Struggle on Manhattan Roof Ends in Officer's Fatal Fall

A young police officer struggling with a robbery suspect on a rooftop in midtown Manhattan died early yesterday after he fell into a shaft between buildings and lay there helplessly for more than 40 minutes before rescuers were able to remove him, the police said.
Four men who were arrested yesterday in connection with the robbery of a McDonald's restaurant that the officer, Anthony T. Dwyer, 23, years old, and several other police officers interrupted, a police spokesman, Inspector Richard Mayronne said. All four, who were described by Inspector Mayronne as career criminals, were charged with murder in Officer Dwyer's death.
First Deputy Police Commissioner Richard J. Condon said at a news conference last night that one of the four, Edward Matos, 21 years old, said he fought with Officer Dwyer on the roof moments before the officer fell into the 25-foot shaft. ''We believe that during the struggle, Matos kicked the officer, causing him to fall into the air shaft,'' Commissioner Condon said.
After nearly a half-hour of efforts to lift Officer Dwyer from the shaft, Emergency Services officers broke through a ventilation duct near the bottom and carried him through the basement of a neighboring restaurant to an ambulance, the police said.
Their efforts were in vain. Officer Dwyer, who lived with his parents in Elmont, L.I., was pronounced dead at 4:50 A.M. at Bellevue Hospital.
