DETROIT, MI – A new video clip and photos have emerged showing the victims of ongoing attacks in a nursing home in Michigan.
On Friday, Law Enforcement Today told you about a disturbing event caught on video of a young man beating an elderly nursing home patient until he bled. And on Saturday, we exposed new details about the investigation.
Jaydon Hayden, 20 years old, filmed himself punching multiple elderly people repeatedly until they bled at the Westwood Nursing Center.
We’ve learned about a new victim thanks to a GoFundMe campaign launched by a grandchild.
Lana Rodriguez share photos of her grandmother, along with the following message:
She share more information about the injuries the grandmother suffered.
“This man needs to be brought to justice. My poor grandmother suffered a hematoma and a mild concussion due to this monster including other medical factors.”
The video is even more disturbing.
“We have raised a small amount but thank you for those who have contributed . My grandmother has been recovering from her attacker but we still are trying to raise for a good lawyer to go against this animal in a court of law and for medical expenses,” said Rodriguez.
The man in the original video that went viral was a 75-year-old United States Veteran.
And on Saturday, we discovered that Hayden was only brought to the nursing home last week, and he was staying there because he was diagnosed with COVID-19.
If that doesn’t make sense to you, you’re not alone.
Hayden’s father spoke to the local news station Fox2. He said that Hayden has mental health issues, including autism, and severe behavioral issues, and while he does box, he’s normally not vicious.
His father (who wished to not be identified) said that Hayden called him from the group home he’s living at to say that he wasn’t sleeping well, was hearing voices, and was feeling anxious.
Last week, he went to a mental health facility in Ann Arbor. While there, he was diagnosed with the virus and workers told his father they were taking him to another facility to quarantine.
His father said that Hayden should not have been taken to the nursing home and he would not have consented if he knew that’s where they were taking him.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, of course, has for some reason ordered that patients with COVID-19 positive tests be quarantined inside of nursing homes. We don’t know much about the virus, but what we do know is that it has proven deadly to the elderly.
Whitmer’s executive order requires nursing homes that are at less than 80% capacity to take in quarantined COVID-19 patients.
Melissa Samuel, president of the Health Care Association of Michigan, told Detroit News:
“These were areas that we immediately brought to the attention of the state and said you shouldn’t be implementing this in this manner.”
A spokesperson has since said that Whitmer is “reviewing” the order.
Hayden’s father said:
“It should’ve never happened because he should’ve never been put in that environment.”
But, he was in that environment, and it did happen. While he punched the man repeatedly in the face and head, Hayden called the man, “Bitch ass n*gga” several times.
Hayden is also accused of assaulting a staff member in Washtenaw County and there is at least one other video of him assaulting an elderly patient, a female this time.
Hayden has a YouTube channel full of videos of him boxing, along with “pranks.”
Fox2 reported that he attends NorWayne Boxing Gym but he’s not an official member of the youth program there.
The gym issued a statement online, which said:
“We share everyone’s sadness over this situation. What this highlights is the importance of helping at-risk kids in our community at an early age.”
Westwood Nursing Center said that they were unaware of the abuse until they saw the video. Their attorney has said that they are cooperating with police and investigating the incident on their own as well.
Social media has not been kind regarding the situation.
