On Monday, May 18th, Deputy Sheriff Wyatt Maser of the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office (Idaho), was killed in the line of duty while on scene of a single vehicle rollover crash. Deputy Maser was first on scene around 5:20am when he encounter a rolled over vehicle with the driver walking around outside the vehicle, holding a machete. A second deputy arrived on scene, and they determined the woman was having a mental crisis. The driver continuously refused the deputies commands to drop the knife and paced in the dark roadway. A third deputy was pulling up to the scene to assist, when he inadvertently struck deputy Maser with his patrol car. Deputy Maser was immediately transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Deputy Maser had served with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office for 13 months and was a Senior Airman in the United States Air Force. Deputy Maser was only 23 years old. He leaves behind his wife and young daughter.
