A new commanding officer has been named to the 45th Precinct to replace Deputy Inspector Danielle Raia who is facing departmental charges relating to alleged time sheet inaccuracies.
Captain Carlos Ghonz, a 12-year veteran of the force with precinct, internal affairs and narcotics enforcement experience, is now in charge.
He comes to the precinct after serving as the executive officer, the second in command at the 46th Precinct, where he said he learned a great deal from that precinct’s leader.

For nearly nine months, the investigators have tried to find out how exactly a small, clear plastic bag full of readily available, highly explosive chemicals found its way to Central Park on July Fourth weekend. The homemade concoction blew up when a park visitor stepped on it; the tourist from Virginia lost his left foot.
Arroyo, D'Antonio and other members of a team of New York police and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents have tracked down the origin of the bag, identified the chemicals in it and reviewed thousands of hours of video to see who might have brought it into one of the country's most popular tourist destinations.
But so far finding out who is responsible for the homemade concoction that injured 19-year-old Connor Golden remains a mystery, despite a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The cast of TV’s “Blue Bloods,” Broadway’s “Wicked” and other entertainment bigs paid tribute this weekend to slain EMS paramedic Yadira Arroyo of The Bronx.
A Queens bank was burglarized early Sunday when at least one thief used power tools to cut a hole in the roof, authorities said.
NYPD alerts feds to Criminal Court appearances of immigrants facing deportation despite 'sanctuary' vow
Illegal immigrants are here illegally, cutting the line others are waiting on to get here legally. They are taxing our resources, not paying taxes, voting in our elections, (try doing that in Mexico and see what happens) and most definitely should not be rewarded for their criminal actions. We are a country of immigrants and immigrants will always be needed and play an important role in our nation, but they must be legal taxpaying immigrants. Glad to see the NYPD is working with the Fed's on this massive criminal trespass. -APN
